Flashback: 1988

Here are some pictures of the circus 24 years ago! Caton’s dad was the ringmaster, his sister the stage helper and his mom the costumier! Oh, and from the stories I heard from friends of the family Caton was pretty much everything. I’m not sure if that means everything he wanted or every part in the show. Those who know him know the answer!

Greg Hegwer (Red& White striped jacked) – The Ringmaster,

Sloan (purple shirt) – Backstage Manager,

Caton (black & white striped shirt) – Troublemaker,

2 Boys (superman shirt & white shirt) – Circus Volunteers.

Caton, Greg & Sloan from left to right.

I believe this picture above is from an act that no longer exists in the show. It was a magic act that involved making Caton disappear from the inside of that yellow & blue trunk.

“The imagination imitates. It is the critical spirit that creates” – Oscar Wilde

Go outside, take a walk, it’s a beautiful day!

Imperial, CA: Hello everybody! Here is the recording of the 11:30 AM Circus Imagination show at the California Mid-Winter Fair on Wednesday, March 7th 2012!

Ask rather what you do for fun!

Imperial, CA: Hello ladies and jellybeans! Circus Imagination is happy to be at our first fair of the 2012 season: California Mid-Winter Fair.

It has been breezy over here! A little too much yesterday… the 60mph winds and dust storms hit Imperial Valley hard, and the fair stayed closed on Tuesday as a safety precaution.

In the other hand, this morning it was a bright and early start! We had a great and busy 11:30 AM show for the School Tours and we will be posting the video recording from this presentation on our youtube page in HD soon!

We have had a chance to use some of our new costumes; they really bright up the scene! You can see better in the pictures above the new lions and tigers and the new Tina the Tight Rope Walker with the rainbow skirt! I’ll try to get clearer pictures and close-ups later this week of all the other new costumes!

We have two more shows today at 4:30PM & 6 PM! Same times for tomorrow’s shows (Thursday – March 8th).

Friday, March 9th: 4:30PM & 6:30PM.

Saturday, March 10th: 2:30PM, 4PM, 5:30PM & 7PM.

Sunday, March 11th: 2:30PM, 4:30PM & 6:30PM.

See you later alligator!

The Lion Transformation

Calistoga,CA: Hello everybody! Hope everything is going great for you guys in 2012! It’s time to update Circus Imagination! We are always improving little things here and there around the circus set, but this winter we have been 100% dedicated to making the circus more magical by making the costumes more believable, more colorful, fuzzier and cozier!

There’s just so much going on right now at the exciting Circus Imagination Factory that I don’t even know where to start! So I decided to take one improvement at a time and now you’ll see our new lion costume!

After many trips to stores like Jo Ann Fabrics and Micheal’s we finally decided on the fabrics and materials to use, the pattern is from Simplicity 8222, mascot costumes, which unfortunately is discontinued, but it can still be found online. The difficulty level I would say “lots of patience” and there’s a lot of hand sewing involved, but the results are definitely worth the trouble!

Oh I can’t wait to see the kids faces this year when they see our new costumes! It’s going to be soooo exciting I can barely wait!

Below is a brief step by step picture show and tell.

Figure 1 – First Cut All the pieces – 48 TOTAL

Figure 2 – Then sandwich foam between layers of fabric, all pieces of the 3d puzzle!

Figure 3 – The front of the face gets put together first!

Figure 4 – Then the back of the head gets attached, see the fuzzy mane underneath?

Figure 5 – Now comes the hard part, inside out, attach the mane all around!

Figure 6 – Almost ready, still missing whiskers and eyebrows!

Figure 7 – Here is our old head on the left and the prototype for the new one on the right!

Figure 8 – And here is the full costume!

Figure 9 – Roooarr!!

Stay tuned with our blog and soon see the new bear costume, new tiger costume and, of course, the 2012 Circus Imagination Summer Schedule!

See you later alligator!

xoxo

2011 Blog in review

Happy New Years Everybody! We wish you all the best! 2012 is here!

Gotta love WordPress! The best free blogs, the best service! Here’s the 2011 annual report they sent me today, I thought it would be fun to share!

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 1,900 times in 2011. If it were a cable car, it would take about 32 trips to carry that many people.

Loose CannonBall

Dublin, California: Last Tuesday there was a cannonball running loose and this time it wasn’t ours! – J Our cannonballs are Human and a 100% safe, this story is about a real cannonball!

The Discovery Channel show “The MythBusters” was shooting a segment that involved firing a cannon, but something went wrong. For those of you that don’t know the show, they test theories and the validity of rumors, myths, movie scenes, adages, internet videos and news stories. In my opinion, they basically make things and then blow them up.

It all took place at the Alameda County Sheriff’s Department bomb range. Everything was going fine until they lit up the fuse and right before shooting the cannon ball, the whole cannon inclined up and they had a misfire. The cannonball was supposed to go through many barrels of water before hitting the bomb range. Instead it went over the barrels, over the concrete wall and smashed into a house, bounced on the asphalt and hit a minivan.

The people in the house were asleep when the cannon ball bounced through their living room. The minivan driver was inside the car when it all happened. He heard the window breaking, looked into the passenger seat and was completely speechless when he saw the cannonball just sitting there.

Nobody got hurt.

Figure 1 – AP Photo

In Circus Imagination our Cannon never misfires, but we do have some loose cannonballs sometimes, some wonder around the fair before their act is done, some get a little stage fright right before it’s time to go on… But we never had a “give up” one, there’s nothing that a good little talk with the Costumier won’t fix!

Well kids, remember if you ever see a gun – or a cannon – don’t touch it, don’t let your friends touch it, leave the area and go and tell an adult!

See you guys soon!
